Cambodian Shareholder Seeks Justice in YY Capital Scandal
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodian authorities, requesting intervention in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei. The investor alleges serious financial misconduct, including fraud, embezzlement, and breaches of trust.
In letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice and other authorities, the investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national, manipulated multiple real estate deals in Cambodia by inflating purchase prices. Preliminary investigations reportedly suggest that approximately $4 million was misappropriated for personal gain and that of others.
The investor further alleges that Yamada and his associates created fictitious transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, forged documents, and large-scale cash diversions through shell companies. Some funds were allegedly transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
According to the letters, Yamada is accused of setting up shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, while retaining direct control of related bank accounts and transactions.
Cambodian prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, freezing assets and bank accounts under court orders. Authorities in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are also said to be investigating allegations including embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian courts and officials to conduct a thorough investigation, warning that any interference could allow suspects to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The claims remain allegations at this stage, with investigations ongoing both in Cambodia and internationally.
